Satellite IoT holds big promise for remote automation

With Sateliot planning a 250-satellite constellation and Lynk Global claiming patented direct-to-phone systems, the traditional coverage advantages held by incumbents like Telstra and Spark New Zealand are set to diminish. The integration of 3GPP protocols into satellite infrastructure allows for low-cost, off-the-shelf NB-IoT devices to operate in remote areas, potentially reducing the need for government-subsidised rural 5G investments.
