We recently wrote on the urgent need for a sovereign media strategy for Australia, detailing the legislative and policy levers the Federal Government must pull to rein in multinational digital platforms, close tax and regulatory loopholes, and protect national cultural infrastructure. The policy failure to hold TV's digital competitors to the same requirements gave them a regulatory advantage that was exacerbated by the industry's own response. This report looks at what the industry should now do: principally, to work more closely together to prepare for a tougher competitive environment.
