TLDR version:  Draft prominence legislation to ensure availability of FTA TV on digital platforms and devices is due before the end of 2023. The FTA TV industry will welcome this: Amazon’s (withdrawn) threat to impose a levy on FTA services streamed through its Fire platform means that the  bottleneck power of global platforms is no longer a hypothetical for the FTA TV industry.

Pressure is also growing for a more comprehensive policy to address the economic power of global platforms and device makers. Along with a looming battle over media bargaining code, passing the prominence legislation will be an early test of the Government’s resolve to tackle these issues.
