Musk’s X ambition faces growing barriers

TLDR version: Elon Musk’s ambition to expand Twitter’s reach into payments and (presumably) other services is a major departure for the app. Some Asian B2C apps have succeeded in expanding into multiple adjacent markets, but the closest the Western world has come is Amazon’s Prime membership. And conditions in the West aren’t getting any better. There is growing resistance to the high level of dependence that such an app would impose on its users, part of a growing backlash against concentration of corporate power.
